How to Use Gua Sha for Radiant, Calm Skin
Gua sha is an ancient Chinese skincare ritual that’s loved worldwide for promoting circulation, reducing puffiness, and relieving tension. When paired with the right products, it can take your skincare routine to the next level. At Fat Cow Skincare, our Tallow Face Cream or Tallow & Wild Yam Cream work beautifully with gua sha, nourishing your skin while you massage and lift.
What You’ll Need
-
Gua sha tool: Made from steel, jade, rose quartz, or another smooth stone.
-
Fat Cow Tallow Face Cream or Tallow & Wild Yam Cream: These provide a silky glide and nourish your skin during your gua sha routine.
Tip: Our Tallow Cream is rich in vitamins and deeply moisturising, while Wild Yam Cream is perfect for soothing and balancing sensitive skin.
Step-by-Step Gua Sha Routine
1. Prep Your Skin
Cleanse your face, then apply a generous layer of your chosen cream. This ensures your gua sha tool glides smoothly without pulling or tugging.
2. Hold Your Tool Correctly
Hold your gua sha tool at a 15–30° angle. Use the flat side against your skin and let the curved edges follow your facial contours.
3. Start at the Neck
Sweep from the base of your neck upwards toward your jawline. This encourages lymphatic drainage and helps the cream absorb deeply.
4. Jawline and Chin
From the chin, sweep along the jawline toward the ears. Repeat 3–5 times on each side to reduce tension and sculpt the jawline.
5. Cheeks and Under-Eye
Glide from the sides of the nose outwards across your cheeks, and gently sweep under the eyes toward your temples. This reduces puffiness while your cream nourishes delicate areas.
6. Forehead Lifts
Move from the center of the forehead outward toward the hairline. This helps smooth tension lines and supports a lifted appearance.
7. Repeat and Relax
Repeat each movement 3–5 times. Gua sha should feel relaxing—never painful. Redness is normal and usually fades within minutes.
